For the first time on record the French Government has honoured a clown, the Minister of Public Instruction having just conferred on Coco, of the Cirque de Paris, the Palmes Academique. a decoration awarded to professors, literary, artistic and scientific personages. Everv Parisian and every visitor to Paris knows Coco, now forty-five years . of age, who began his career at the age of nine. A disciple of Footit, he toured the w'orld with Bob O'Connor (a Parisian in spite of his name), and this famous combination lasted eleven years. Coco’s greatest acrobatic feat was to dive into a swimming pool on horseback from a height of about thirty feet. The police soon stopped this, for no one was very sure how the horse would make the dive. Coco’s real name is Raoul Jouin. and I it is claimed that he makes 60,000 j People laugh every week. i.
