The Listeners’ League. It was a small but very enthusiastic band of listeners who braved the very unpleasant weather conditions last evening to attend the meeting of the Listeners’ League. A report of the meeting appears elsewhere in this issue of the “Star.” It was most unfortunate that the elements were against a good attendance; also that it had not been found possible to arrange a meeting on a Tuesday evening. However, the league has now been formed, rules adopted and officers and committee elected, and it only remains for all those who have enrolled to do their best to obtain the enrolment of every listener of their acquaintance. The league must have a majority of the licensed listeners in Christchurch enrolled as members if its representations are to carry any weight at all. It will be of more than ordinary interest to young listeners to learn "that the League has elected “Uncle Jack,” of 3YA, as its vice-president. “Aerial” asks every young reader of these notes to come to “Uncle Jack’s” support and show their appreciation of him by inducing father or brother, or whoever holds the radio license in the family, to become a member of the league. Just send along name and address with the first year’s sub., Is, or leave it at the Public Library addressed care of “Uncle Jack.” All together, now, please 1 x x At the committee meeting held after the general meeting had concluded, it was decided to start a membership ( campaign forthwith. The next meeting of the committee has been fixed for Wednesday week and members have started a competition among themselves to see who will be the most successful in the canvass for new members. “Aerial” wants to head the list and is taking a mean advantage of the others by asking readers to help him top the poll! (What’s the odds if it is rather ‘putting it across” the other fellows! It's in a good cause. 5.0.5.!) Reception Notes. That 8.T.8 is rapidly spoiling ‘Aerial’s” love for “Horace.”' Was rather proud of him, too, as he rarely, if ever, failed to render good service. But this B.T.S is quite a class ahead of “Horace,” the Counterphase Six. Last evening, for instance, KFON came through as if it were only a dozen miles away. Not much static, ' either, at that time —6.15 p.m. T’was quite a wrench to leave the big set and come into town to the L.L. meeting. As a guide, here are a few notes made by a young operator of the B.T.S last night. 2BL Sydney was very loud. More static than on Tuesday evening. IYA Auckland; Very loud and clear. Thought it was 3YA until the dial reading was checked. 3YA Christchurch: , Nice. Good programme. 2FC Sydney: I No results so far as the re-broadcast was concerned at first. Left 2FC ow- ■ ing to bad Morse interference. 1 Wandered round Australia, then back to 2FC. Plenty of Morse heard on all stations. More static, too. Heard someone speaking at 2FC at 9.5. Very indistinct owing to static. Something about San Francisco and lightning. Several Oswalds about also. At 9.15, 2FC made another attempt to re-broad-cast. Came in fairly well. Heard orchestral music and then a man singing. No announcement heard. 3LO Melbourne: Very clear. 3AR also very good. One or two Oswalds about. When the writer returned at 10.30, 7ZL Hobart was coming through at fine strength. Choral stuff, male voices, after the style of the Don Cossacks Choir—unaccompanied. Very large body of singers. Not munch static.

With the power valve in the volume was excellent. Very little fading and then only at long intervals. It turned out to be a relay of the Hobart Orpheans C lub s first subscription concert of the season. During their interval the announcer gave a short account of the lormation and growth of the Orpheans’ Club since 1577. Very bad local interference from 11 p.m. Quite spoiled reception of all stations until 11.35 p.m.—time to turn in. Static was heavier then than was pleasant. Does not seem to indicate an early change in weather conditions. Schenectady, re-broadcast by 2FC, was heard quite loudly on high powered sets, but not clearly enough to be enjoyable. “ Counterphase Six ” Notes. Mr Rees, North Beach, reports that KFON, Long Beach, came in at great volume again last night. Mostly jazz music, but a really good orchestra. Reception marred for a time by the Morse gentleman who sits on KFON’s waveregularly every night. In signing off at 7.30 (N.Z. time) the “Piggly Wiggly” station announced that they would be on the air at 9.30 in the morning to broadcast an organ recital from the First Church of Christ, Long Beach. 2FC, 2BL, 3LO, 3AR,*and 7ZL heard at good strength in their afternoon sessions (between 5.45 and 6.30 here.) Understood “ Uncle George ” at 2BL to say that “Uncle Jack” (Mr J. M. Prentice) was returning to that statin, replacing Daddy Longlegs, who, he said, is getting too old. (He claims to be 101!) Children’s sessions from 2BL, 2FC and 3LO at great volume. Light static and 2BL fading badly. ss tri' Heard from “Jerry” at 2FC’s children’s session last night:— Jerry: “There was a family—Mr Bigger, Mrs Bigger, and Baby Bigger. "Which was the bigger?” Uncle Russ: “I don’t know.” Jerry: The baby; because he was a little bigger!” Jerry: “Mr Bigger died. Now who was the bigger? ” Uncle Russ: “The baby.” Jerry: “No. Mrs Bigger was, because the baby was fatherless (far-the-less). Jerry: “Mrs Bigger married Mr Digger’s brother. Who was the bigger?” Uncle Russ: “Don’t know.” Jerry: “ Mrs Bigger, because she was twice bigger.” From about 8.45 to 9.30 both 2BL and 2FC re-broadcast WGY. Music fair, but speech rather mushy. Much better towards end. Light static and fading from both stations did not tend to good reception. All Australian stations at good volume during concert programmes. Fading bad; Oswalds prolific all round. Sri X X ANSWERS TO INQUIRIES. “ Aerial ” will be glad to answer any questions pertaining to wireless, or give advice on the subject. Correspondents should give their names and addresses, not necessarily for publication. 3YA Programmes. J.B.L. writes:—“Re letter from the six New Brighton residents concerning organ recitals. I could forward over one hundred names of people who appreciate organ recitals .If the six Brighton residents can’t appreciate it, they can always shut it off. the same as we do when we don’t like a certain thing. The Broadcasting Company are always stressing the point of endeavouring to cater for all classes of listeners. In the case of organ recitals, they have cut it out and are displeasing a large body of listeners. For the love of Mike cut out jazz!”
