£SOO BAIL FIXED FOR MAN ACCUSED OF BURGLARY.

(Special to the, “Star.”) WELLINGTON, June 22. John Asher, labourer, aged 31, the subject of a police chase from a tramcar yesterday, was to-day charged with breaking and entering the house of Henry William M’Carthy, and stealing £7 12s and two tram tickets. “Other charges are pending,” said Chief Detective Ward in asking for a remand. When bail was asked for, Chief Detective Ward said: “We allege that the house was broken into and afterwards set on fire.” He asked that bail be substantial, and it was fixed at £SOO.
