BIG CANADIAN FILM AT CRYSTAL PALACE.

The Canadian Northwest Mounted Police, largely on account of the splendid type of men who have entered it, is surrounded by a measure of romance hardly equalled by that of the excise men who put down smuggling in England, and of the privateers that swept the seas, searching for the Empire's enemies. In these days the Northwest Mounted hold almost a unique position. They are fit subjects for written and screened stories. One of the best of these is Mr James O. Curwood’s “ Steele of the Royal Mounted,” and an adaptation of it now being shown at the Crystal Palace is one of the best pictures in its class presented at that popular theatre. A bewitching little adventuress is Miss Bessie Love in “Going Crooked.” In this story she is particularly attractive in a Chinese costume. “ Going Crooked ” is a comedy as well as a drama, the two elements being judiciously mixed to play on the feelings at one time and to create laughter at another time. The Symphony Orchestra’s musical programme is thoroughly enjoyable.
