(Special to the “Star.”) AUCKLAND, June 22. Remanded. Thomas Hughes, a young man, who arrived from Australia under escort, appeared this morning on a charge of forging a cheque for £3OO 15s on an Auckland bank. He was remanded. Further charges are pending. Woman Shoplifter. Dorothy Hinemoa Weller, a young married woman, who was before the Court yesterday for shoplifting, was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence within two years.. Decree Granted. A decree nisi was granted Dora Eileen Howse this morning, when she petitioned against Thomas Geoffrey Ilowse for desertion. The parties were married at Devonport in 1920, and lived at Nelson, Ileicnsville and Auckland. During the first year, the husband began to ill-treat his wife. He threatened to shoot her, and on one occasion nearly strangled her. On coming to Auckland he stole the wedding presents and later left his wife.
