CANTERBURY SCHOOL COMMITTEES ASSN. MEETS.

The Canterbury School Committees' Association met last evening, Mr G. P. Purnell presiding. With respect to the proposal to affiliate with the New Zealand Federation the executive made the following recommendation:—“ That it he a recommendation that the question be referred to the South Island conference for further consideration and express their willingness to co-operate with the North Island in the meantime.” The chairman said the executive recognised the fact that union was strength, but 1t was thought that it would not be right till the South Island Federation had had an opportunity to discuss the matter. Mr N. A. Ingram, secretary of the Wellington Association, said that one reason why he was strongly in favour of the New Zealand Federation was that (he school associations were very disunited at present. This was demonstrated when the Hon R. A. Wright asked that one member he appointed to the Syllabus Committee, to represent the school committees. There was no body capable of making the appointment. He did not think the disruption of the South Island Federation The recommendation of the executive was at.proved. Following a report .by the secretarv on the subject of unetnployed student's it was derided that the executive be asked to arrange a conference of the bodies interested to diseuss the matter. The secretary reported that there was ro chance of getting further concessions for the children on the tramways from Hornby, Templeton and other outlying districts. Mr F. Thompson had informed that he could hold out no hope of any further concessions.
