KAIAPOI BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETS.

The fortnightly meeting of the Kainpoi Borough Council was held last night: present—The Mayor (Mr 11. C. Revell), Councillors F. Thorne, H. AJ’lntosh, R. J. Dunn, l*’. Debenhain, A. Linklater, W. H. A. Vickery, E. .1. Pollard, J. D. Williams and D. Whyte. Permission was granted the Catholic Dance Committee to park cars In Hilton Street, on June 21, subject to the usual supervision. The Kaiapoi Fire Board wrote asking that a crossing way be installed at the North Road (south) fire sump, to enable the fire engine to connect on to the sump without running along the footThe letter was received, and it was decided to comply with the board’s request. Dr .\I. Ramsay wrote asking if the council had received any reply to the letter to the North Canterbury Hospital Board regarding the taking-over of the Kaiapoi Nursing Home. lie suggested that the council should again bring before the board the urgent necessity of something being done in the matter. It was decided to ask the Hospital Board to receive a deputation from the council. The Mayor and Councillors Vickery and M’lntosh were apointed members of the deputation. Mr R. J. Hughey, Rangiora, wrote offering to supply screened shingle at 5s per yard on truck at Rangiora. The letter was referred to the Works Committee. The County Clerk. Rangiora County Qouncil, wrote advising that his council was unable to supply screened shingle at present, but would be pleased to consider an application for a supply at a later date. f The letter was received. The officer in charge, N.Z. Railways Advertising Department, advised that it was proposed to erect 4 ft x 9ft advertisement against the railway boundary on High Street. The letter was received. The secretary of the North Canterbury Hospital Board wrote forwarding a copy of an address by Dr Blackmore on tuberculosis, and also the annual report submitted by Dr Fenwick on the Radium Department. The recommendations of the council’s representatives who attended a conference with the P3yre County Council regarding a deviation of the road at the girder bridge, and the taking-ovex- by the council of the Willock Street settlement, were adopted. It was decided that the Works Committee should obtain further information as to the conditions of taking over the settlement. The Works C ommittee reported having inspected Tarnban's arid M’lntosh’s drain, and having notified Messrs K. M’lntosh, jun., and W. Winter to have portions of the drain cleaned. The report was adopted. The Cemetery Committee was asked to report regarding the extension of paths and surveying new plots at the Public Cemetery. The Finance Committee reported receipts £149 5s lid, debit balance £4lB 14s. Accounts amounting to £BS 2s 4d were passed for payment
