LATE WIRELESS.

Studio Notes. The official opening of the new Wellington station has been fixed for July 16. Both towers are now erected and the transmitting station on the hilltop forms a striking landmark in and around the Empire city. The assembling of machinery is proceeding as rapidly as possible and the work is being pushed ahead as it can be. A forward move has been made by the Radio Broadcasting Company in regard to sporting. Recognising the part , that this plays in the life of the people ' of New Zealand, arrangements are now [ being made throughout the Dominion for the broadcasting of results of all events and the describing of the most important fixtures as they are being fought out. It is quite probable that a description of the next Ranfurly Shield match between Wairarapa and Hawke’s Ba}*, to be played at Masterton on July 9, will be broadcast by the Wellington Station. Talks on various aspects of sports and athletics will be features on coming programmes. At 3YA on Friday, June 24, Mr J. K. Maloney, of the Canterbury Rugby Union, will deliver the first of a scries of lectures. Addresses by other authorities are to follow later. July 1 is Dominion Day for Canada and the Association football players from the land of the maple leaf will be in Christchurch for the occasion. In the evening they will be the guests of the Broadcasting Company at the studio of 3YA, when the manager of the team, Alderman Adam, will broadcast a talk on soccer in Canada, and it is probable that others of the team will contribute to the programme something that will be typically Canadian. The story of the old Boys-Christ-church football match at Lancaster Park will be told by 3YA on Saturday. The first soccer test at Dunedin the same afternoon will be described by 4YA. Auckland will also be on the air with another sporting narrative. Saturday afternoon’s broadcast of the Canterbury-Canadian soccer match came through very well. Mr A. R. Allardyce, who is now on the staff of the Broadcasting Company as organiser of the sports section of its service, was the narrator and he made the most of the game. Dunedin station, 4YA, will broadcast a description of boxing on Friday evening. * « « What can a feller do? “ For the love of mike cut out the organ recitals on Friday nights. Once a week is too frequent to have this monotonous wail disturbing the ether. The church service on Sundays is ample. Thank you.” This letter, signed by six residents of New Brighton, has been received by the Broadcasting Company, and comes apropos to J.B.L.’s complaint in last evening’s “ Star ” that the company failed to include the usual organ recital in its last Friday’s programme. Other Notes. Sydney’s topical chorus was very clear, but not too snappy at 9.30. 2BL started on the first hour’s entertainment with the New Wentworth Orchestra. x 3LO at 9.35 put over “Land of Hope and Glory” by the band, with a fine euphonium part. The subsequent programme was high-class. Just before 11 “Memories” of England came in splendidly. The transmission from 3LO has improved wonderfully in the last week. 2FC announced last night that it would attempt to rebroadcast WGY, Schenectady, between 7 and 8 to-night (New Zealand time 8.30 to 9.30), but if the attempt failed the ordinary programme would be continued. “New Chum” noted that stations up the dial came in well last night, and down the dial badly. 2BL was not nearly as good as 2FC. Melbourne, however, was almost perfect. ' 2GB, Sydney, could not be tuned in. Possibly a silent night.
