OLD-TIME JOCKEY DIES IN HOSPITAL.

The death of Mr Charles Stratford, which occurred at the Christchurch Hospital this morning, removed a well known figure from the sporting community. Deceased was at one time a prominent jockey, being a contemporary of R. Derrett, IT. Thomson, the late P. White, the late W. Clifford and other notable riders of the eighties and nineties of last century. For several years past he had been employed by Cutts Brothers, the well known Riccarton trainers. He remained with them until a few weeks ago, when he went into hospital, on what proved to be his final illness. He leaves a widow* and a grown up family.
