A beginning was made by the City Council yesterday with the work of laying the 12-inch mains in Tennyson Street for the extension of the highpressure water supply system to the outer areas of the city. The pipes for the job arrived on Friday and ari angements were made immediately for putting the work in hand. Eighteen men started on the work yesterday morning, and if the supply of pipes is maintained the number will be increased later on. The Tekoa, which i; bringing a supply of pipes from England for the reticulation of the Spreydon district, is now at Auckland, and the Matatua. v/ith a further supply on board, is due to arrive about the middle of nextmonth. Advice has been received bv •the City Engineer (M; A. R. Galbraith) that the specials for the Spreydon reticulation, which have been made by a Dunedin firm, are now ready. A representative of A the City Council will proceed to Dunedin , to-day to inspect and test them.
