PLUNKET SOCIETY.

MONTHLY COMMITTEE MEETING. The monthly meeting of the committee of the Ro\'al New Zealand Society for the Health of Women and Children was held in the Plunket rooms. There were present—Mesdames C. Chilton (in the chair), H. T. J. Thacker, J. K. Archer, E. Cordner, Algar Williams, C. M. Ollivier, V. Turnbull, E. Harris, E. Parlane, G. Lester, A. Dean, E. Wanklyn, G. Aitken, E. Boulton, R. M. Robertson, A. R. Bloxam, W. Ingle, R. W. Anderson, M. H. Godby, Cecil Wood, and Misses Trotter and M. Cooke. Apologies for Absence were received from Mesdames J Stevenson, M’Killop, Neville, Beaven. Hawkins and Acton-Adams. The resignation of Mrs Eric Harper was received with great regret, and appreciation of her helpful interest in the society was recorded. Nurse Summers was appointed to tLke charge of the ante-natal clinic, at the end of June, when the branch assumed full responsibility for the clinic. Arrangements for Violet Day -were discussed. It was reported that permission had been granted for the sale of flowers in the streets on Friday, September 2. It was decided to hold the sale of cakes, produce, sewing, plants, etc., in the Art Gallery—followed by a cabaret at night. As funds were badly needed to meet the extra expense entailed in appointing a nurse to take charge of the ante-natal clinic, the committee were asked to make a special effort to raise as much money as possible on Violet Day. For the office. Nurse Allen reported 109 new cases; 682 visits had been paio to homes; and twenty-tivo expectant mothers interviewed for the first time. For the Karitane Baby Hospital, the matron reported:—Seven babies admitted, four discharged: fifteen in hospital ; four mothers admitted to the mothers’ cottage, two discharged, four in residence. During the past month the mothers’ cottage had been fully occupied. On May 81. a party of ladies from “Holly Lea” visited the hospital ami brought eighteen beautifully knitted singlets with them for use in the hospital. During the month gifts were gratefully received from the following. Mesdames C. E. Knight, E. Harris, E. Harper, Gardiner (Gust), Darfield Plunket Society, and Mrs Barnes. Nurse Wall relieved the Ashburton nurse during the month of May, and on June 1 took charge cf the Cash-mere-Sydenham district, while Nurse Bowron had her annual holiday. During the month donations and subscriptions were received from the following:—Mesdames M’Donald, J. ■ Nash, G. L. Bowron, H. 11. Prins, 11. Shaw, J. L. Gatehouse. G. E. Barton, Barrett, D. Sincoclc, W. R. Caverhill and C. lies.
