REPLACING THE RIVERINA. At present tho Riverna’s place is being filled by the Zealanctfa. also owned by Huddart, Parker (Ltd.), which is running: in the passenger service between Sydney and Hobart. The running of this vessel in the service is regarded, however, as only a temporary measure, as she is generally engaged in the West Australian trade, to which it is expected she will return as soon as possible. The Riverina will be replaced, but it is impossible to tell when. The whole matter will have to be discussed by the board of directors of the company,” said the chairman of directors of Huddart, Parker, Ltd. (Mr W. T. Appleton). “No plans have yet been discussed.” Among those interested there has been much speculation whether the new passenger vessel will be a coal-burning ship, oilburning ship or a motor ship. The Oxley and Olinda. the two new passenger vessels recently purchased for the inter-State trade by the Australasian United Steam Navigation Company, are oil-burning vessels, and it is understood that at least one other inter-State comir y «te C “;S“ for the consumption of oil fuel. The Minister of Publicity (the Hon G. J. Anderson) points out that the company is doing this gratuitously. The Government intends also distributing albums of New Zealand views on board the steamers. At a recent meeting the City Council decided to grant permission, subject to certain conditions, to Messrs A. S.
