WET WEATHER FOR THE SHORTEST DAY.
Umbrellas and waterproofs appeared by the thousand to-day. / Early last evening the sky cleared almost completely, but it clouded up rapidly, and rain threatened. Fairly heavy showers fell through the night, but the clouds lifted towards morning. After 8 a.m. heavy rain again began to fall. Later a steady downpour de veloped, and continued without cessation throughout the morning, and with no prospect of any clearance.
