THEFTS TOOK PLACE OVER LONG PERIOD.
(Special to the “ Star.”) AUCKLAND. June 21.
John Wallace Thurlow, aged 25, and Robert William Knight, aged 25, appeared this mprning on many charges of stealing silk and various other goons between August, 1926, and this month, from the holds of various Union Company steamers. The theft of silk was particularly impudent, as 240 yards was stolen from a locker and forty were found at Thurl*ws. Both accused, who are married, pleaded guilty. . The Magistrate, Mr M’Kean, said that the worst feature was that the thefts extended over a long period. He convicted the men on one charge each and remanded them in custody till Tuesday. On all remaining charges they were convicted and discharged.
