AUCKLAND SELECTS CROSS-COUNTRY MEN.

(Special to the “ Star.”) AUCKLAND, June 20. With the New Zealand cross-country championship close at hand the Auckland competitors assembled at the domain on Saturday and an interesting trial over four miles was run. The field comprised G. Kells and J. W. Savidan, who were members of the successful Auckland team which won the 1926 New Zealand cross-country championship. At the conclusion of the day’s sport the following team was seleted to represent Auckland at the New Zealand cross-country meeting at Christchurch on July 2: G. Kells, J. W. Savidan, N. S. Cooper and C. Scown, with P. Henshall emergency. The principal results were:— Four Miles Steeplechase—Scown (24min 37sec) 1, Cooper (24min 45sec) 2, S. Henshall (24min 46sec) 3. Thirteen started. 75yds Handicap—A. J. Elliott (scr) 1, H. S. Roper (3£yds) 2, J. M’Coy (2yds) 3. Inches separated the placed men. Time —7 9-10 sec.
