WHITE WOMEN IN CHINESE HOUSE.
ONE GOES TO GAOL, THE OTHER TO BORSTAL. (Special to the “ Star.”) AUCKLAND, June 20. Two very cheeky women, Annie Alexander (24) and Rose Gertrude Byron (19), spent some time in the dock this morning pulling faces at the Magistrate, Mr M’Kean, Major Gordon, the Probation Officer, and others. Both pleaded guilty to being idle and disorderly. The police evidence showed that the women were found in a Chinese house on Saturday night. Byron admitted having gone to such places on many occasions. She had a child and had left her parents’ home three weeks ago. Alexander was a married woman, living from her husband, and, in August, 1925, was given one year’s reformative treatment for theft. At the conclusion of the case Mr M’Kean sent Byron to the Borstal Institute for two years and Alexander to prison for two months.
