J he first of a series of three lectures to members of the Christchurch Hardware Merchants’ Association was given on Saturday evening, when Mr L. B. Cordery was the speaker. There was a large attendance of members. Mr Cordery spoke on “Morality of Busi-ness,”-pointing out that to retain custom, traders must treat their customers fairly. At the conclusion of the lecture the speaker was accorded a vote oi thanks on the motion of Mr \V. Machin. Ihe Port Hills and Cashmere were lightly covered with snow during Saturday night, and though most of it had disappeared by mid-day yesterdav, the shaded gullies were quite white. At the Kiwi there was sufficient snow for a merry party to build a snow man who occupied the only seat available. The top of Mount Herbert was quite white, and the Alps as far as the eye could see were covered with snow which came right down on to the plains.
