M’KNIGHT, WITH BONE IN HAND BROKEN, PUTS UP GAME FIGHT. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright Aus. and N.Z. Cable Association. SYDNEY, June 19. At the Newcastle Stadium, Nelson Al'Knight (lOst 5&lb) suffered his first defeat in Australia, when he was beaten by Jimmy Pearce (lOst 8ilb). Al’Knight was floored half way through the nineteenth round, and the referee stopped the co* test ar.d declared Pearce the winner. Al'Knight was down twice before and was in a hopeless position. He received a heavy right to the head in the sixth round, and was down for eight seconds. This was the beginning of the end. Al’Knight never recovered, ard received a terrific pasting until the referee terminated the fight. The New Zealander’s showing was very courageous and earned him great applause. It was learned later that Al’Knight broke a small bone in his right hand a week ago and stepped into the ring under a serious disadvantage facing an opponent like Pearce, who is regarded as the future welter-weight champion of Australia. THOMPSON KNOCKS OUT WALKER. SYDNEY. Juno 19. At the Stadium George Thompson knocked out Wally Walker in the seventh round. Walker was outclassed and badly punished. BILLY GRIME BEATS MEXICAN ON POINTS. AUSTRALIAN CLEARLY SHOWS SUPERIORITY. Aus. and N.Z. Cable Association. NEW YORK. June 18. At Los Angeles, Billy Grime, holder of three Australian titles, won on points in a ten-round bout against Pico Ramies a Afexican. Ramies, although a clever and courageous boxer, was wholly unable to cope with the wearing, lunging attack of Grime, who out-boxed and out slugged him. The Australian reached his opponent's Jaw almost at will, and the Alexican was a tired and much bat tered man when the final bell rang Grime took the first three rounds by a wide margin. The Alexican. who was apparently determined to rush Grime In the third round. swung viciously, each blow carrying a potential knock out, but the crowd roared with laughter when the Australian side-stepped these, and in return sent biting lefts that damaged his opponent’s face. Ramies was mor* cautious in the fourth round, in which he shook his opponent by landing aevi ral heavy body punches at close quai ters*. Grime returned to win the fifil badly cutting the Mexican’s eye a lacing him soundly throughout the se slon, only Ramies’s great strength an determination keeping him on his fee Grime, during the next three round continued a constant battery of blow to the head and body, clearly showln his superiority. Ramies gave evlden of his great courage and skill by rturning in the ninth and trading blov for blow, making the round even. H continued his attack in the tenth, witi a slight superiority in that session, h continuing effective body blows, bGrime gained the decision, his supremacy generally throughout the bout being obvious.
