R.S.A. WILL CONSERVE £190.000 CANTEEN FUND FOR FUTURE.

Per Pres* Association, WELLINGTON, June 15. A lengthy discussion took place at the annual meeting of the Dominion Council of the R.S.A. with regard to what should be done with the Canteen Fund, now totalling £190,000, inclusive of last year’s interest. The remit of a subcommittee on the suggestion of Mr Aldred, the representative of the Council on the Trust Board, was taken in two parts. The first part was carried as follows: “That the Dominion Conference confirm the attitude taken up by the R.S.A. in the past and that the corpus of the canteen fund be conserved.” This was carried unanimously. The second part was keenly debated and eventually carried. Tt further recommends that the fund be eventually used for the purpose of erecting veterans’ homes, as soon as the necessity* The conference resolved that in view of the unemployment existing among returned soldiers this winter to recommend the Board to apply a portion of its income to relief work.
