INTER-ISLAND RUGBY MATCH.

CHRISTCHURCH PEOPLE FEEL DISAPPOINTED. A good deal of disappointment was expressed in Rugby circles in Christchurch this morning when it became known that the Inter-Island Rugby match was not going to be played in Christchurch this season. When the Canterbury delegates, Messrs S. F. Wilson and A. E. M’Phail left to go to the annual meeting of the New Zealand Rugby Union it Avas generally anticipated that they would make a bold bid for the match, but. according to the message sent by the “ Star’s ” special correspondent, the Canterbury delegates turned the game down because the date (October 2) was too late in the season. At their meeting on April 26 the Canterbury Rugby Union unanimously decided to make application for the match to be played in Christchurch this year. Curiously enough, the delegates did not back up this decision when in Wellington. It was stated this afternoon that the reasons why the Canterbury delegates did not press the claims for the match to be played in Christchurch this season were:— (1) October 2. The Cricket Association will have the Park. (2) They received an assurance that the game would be played here next year.

(3) There is a movement afoot to haA-e the game played alternately in Wellington and Christchurch, and this will probably be brought into effect.
