500 FARMERS SAIL FOR EUROPE.
WILL INVESTIGATE AGRICULTURAL AFFAIRS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Aus. and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received May 2, 10.30 a.m.) NEW YORK, May 1. Five hundred farmers from forty-five States are sailing on July 30 under the direction of the American Farm and Bureau Federation with the cooperation of the Department of Agri- I culture to visit seven European countries to determine agricultural conditions and methods of marketing and irrigation in Denmark, large scale drainage in Holland, reafforestation in Germany, terracing in Rhineland, landscape gardening in England and France, and wasteland reclamation and dairying in several Scandinavian countries. The farmers will spend seven weeks in these studies, which include visits to forty-three cities to see the disposal of agricultural products to the consumer. The trip is an outgrowth of experts’ surveys indicating that many successful agricultural practices in Europe are probably adaptable to American conditions and it is desired that the farmep should make first-hand investigat-io^k.
