Mrs J. E. Baker. Park Terrace, is making a short visit to Dunedin. Mr and Mrs John Needham will leave to-day for a holiday visit to Hanmer Springs. Mrs Anderson, who was spending a holiday with Mrs F. Redpath, Avonside, has returned to Wanganui. Mr and Mrs L. B. Beale, who have been in Christchurch for several days, will return to the north on Wednesday evening. Mr and Mrs G. G. Wallace, Wellington. Mrs Basil Cadoux. Mrs A. Basten and Miss C. ‘ Basten, Auckland, arrived on Saturday from the north and are staying at the United Service Hotel. Mr apd Mrs Halligan, of Wellington, are sta3'ing at Warner’s Hotel. Miss Sybil Thompson. Redcliffs, has returned to Christchurch from the North Island. Mrs J. S. Ashmore, of Te Awamutu, is visiting her mother, Mrs F. E. Greenfield, St Albans. Mr and Mrs C. W. Philip (New South Wales) and Miss Kennedy (Sydney) are among the guests at Warner’s Hotel. Included among the guests at the United Service Hotel are Mrs and Miss Presscott (England), Miss Ethel A. Kidd (Auckland), and Mr and Mrs J. K. Elliott (Cambridge, England). Among the guests, at Warner’s Hotel over the week-end were Mrs J. Harper Reid (Wanganui), Mr and Mrs C. W. Muir (Gisborne), and Mr and Mrs Campbell Ilay (Pigeon Bay). A kitchen party given at the home of Mrs Thomas, Spr.eydon, in honour of Miss Audrey Rooney, of

Timaru, whose marriage takes place shortly. Musical items were contributed by Miss Chris. Miller, Lilian Round, Gladys Weavers, Myrtle Newton and Mary Vidulich. Miss Marjorie Wait (Riccarton) is visiting Mi'ss Meg Loughnan, Fairlie. Miss Muriel Kerr, who has been the guest of Mrs IT. S. Russell. Wai-iti Road. Timaru, has returned to Christchurch. A large and appreciative audience were present at the Caledonian Hall on Saturday evening, when Miss Phyllis Lett made, her first appearance, to a Christchurch audience. Palms and maples decorated the stage. Miss Phyllis Lett wore a gown of ivory satin, heavily draped and worn very long. A long, straight panel hung from the shoulders, and a draped train was arranged from the waist, falling long on the ground. The draped sleeves were of georgette, falling from the shoulder, with touches of brilliant trimming. Miss Lett, received many beautiful bouquets. Miss Margot Macgibbon, the violinist, wore a dainty girlish frock of deep blush pink georgette. The long bodice was slightly pouched at the waist line, and the skirt was made in three tiered frills. The waist line was defined with a girdle of pink shaded flowers, with hand-made gold leaves. Guests at the Hotel Federal include: —Mr E. Stephens, Mr Geo. Wm. The Papanui Bellringers' Association held a social and dance at St Paul's Schoolroom. Papanui, on Saturday night. Mr R. 11. N. Corsbie was M.C. and INI r W. A.
