CHRISTCHURCH GUN CLUB OPENS SEASON.

The Christchurch Gun Club opened the 1927 season last Saturday afternoon. Tbe shooting conditions were difficult, the strong easterly wind making: the clays very- erratic in night, with the result that none of the scratch men wu able to get into the prize money. The first competition was a 15-bird clay target match from handicap distances. First prize was a trophy presented by the Ellesmere Gun Club, and second prize » trophy presented by Mr H. Clinch. There were twenty-two competitors, and the leading scores ven as follows: H. M. Wright, 12111101111111132 .. 14 Dr W. H. Simpson. 100111111121211 1$ J. Miles. 021122120211121 IS W. Whttford. 121010131121111 .... 13 J. Wallace, 111111020111212 13 R. Arnst, A. N. Turner, C. Moore, and T. Kim be r each broke 12. while H. Greo nell, E. Hammond, N. Powell, and H. Blackler each broke 11. H. M. Wright with the higbeet. score won the first prize, and the four with 13 breaks shot ©IT, first miss out. for the second trophy. Dr W- H- Simpson shot brilliantly and won on the fifth round with J. Miles runner-up. Mr H. Arnst presented the winners with their prizes and congratulated them on their shooting under the difficult conditions Twenty-three started in a ten-bird sweepstake. J. Wallace and X. Powell broke possibles, and the next bent were C. Moore, H. Nj Jackson, E. Hammond. I>- Hope, and H. M, Wright, each with, nine breaks. The concluding event was a ten-bird sweepstake. Fourteen competed, and possibles were made by E. Hammond and T. KYmber. Nine were broken by W. Whitford, J. Radford and H. M. Wright.
