RECLAIMED LAND NOW BEING USED.
WORK PROCEEDING ON NEW AREA AT PORT.

The British Imperial Oil Company, which has leased an area of just over two acres near the dock, on which large oil tanks will be constructed, is going ahead with its work, and the Harbour Board is providing the company with road access. A railway siding has al-
ready been laid on the dock side, and others will be laid on other parts of the area as they arer required.
Up to the present no other leases have been sold by the board, but it is probable that before long the area will be dotted with stores and workshops It is approximately 71 acres in extent.
About six acres at the south-west end of the reclaimed land has been given to the Lyttelton Borough Council for use as a recreation ground. The council is now getting the land ready and is surfacing it with spoil from the streets.
On the sea front the Harbour Board has planted a row of pine trees, which will add greatly to the. general appearance. It is proposed to make available forty-five sites, each about a fifth of an acre in. extent, for residential purposes on the sea front. There will also Ije another six residential sites the recreation ground.
