PERSONAL.

MINISTERIAL. The Hon J. A. Young. Minister of Health, arrives in Christchurch on Wednesday to open the Hospital Boards' Conference, and returns to Wellington in the evening. Guests at the Clarendon Hotel include Messrs R. D. Tosswill and T. W. Fish wick (Wanganui). J. Bailie (Westport), and F. Milner (Oamaru). Sir Robert Anderson, Sydney, is at the Clarendon Hotel. Messrs J. J. East (Waipukurau), and R. S. Allen (Wellington), are guests at the United Service Hotel. Mr J. M’Nair, district engineer of the Railway Department, left to-dav for the West Coast. Mr L. W. Robertson, divisional locomotive. engineer of the Railway Department, returned from the south last evening. Among the recent arrivals at Warner's Hotel arc Messrs L. Ashcroft Edwards (Wellington) and C. S. Coome (London). . Mr A. W. Beaven, who has been visiting Dunedin, has returned to Christchurch. Mr B. Todd, director of the Todd Motor Co., has taken up his residence in Christchurch. Mr E. J. Gravestock arrived in Christchurch from Dunedin yesterday. He is at Warner’s Hotel. Mr Justice Alpers, who will arrive in Christchurch on March 5, will preside over a sitting of the Supreme Court. Mr C. Cajnp, assistant secretary of the New Zealand Employers’ Federation. passed through Christchurch to Dunedin yesterday. Mr H. Waters, manager of Everybody's Theatre, left for Wellington, cn route for Sydney, last evening. Mr C. J. B. Norwood, Mayor of Wellington, has withdrawn from the forthcoming mayoral contest in city in favour of the candidature of Mr G. A. Troup. Dr H. T. D. Acland and Mr C. E. Foweraker left yesterday for Peel Forest, to attend the first meeting of the Peel Forest Scenic Board, which is to be held to-day. Mr E. Hay, Pigeon Bay, has been nominated for the office of president of the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association, and Mr H. S. S. Kyle. M.P., has been nominated for the vice-presidency. Mr IT. E. Wedde, of the Temuka “ Leader ” Staff, has received an appoinment as editor of the “ North Otago Times,” and will leave Temuka to take up his new duties at Oamaru at the end of March. Mr Ken Godfrey will leave this evening for Wellington, prior to his departure for America, where he will continue his study of the flute at the Institute of Musical Art, New York.

Prior to his departure to take up the position of stationmaster at Tinwald, Mr Len Ray. who has been attached to the traffic department of the railway service, was met by the office staff to say farewell. Mr IT. Chapman, district traffic ’manager, made a presentation on behalf of the staff after several speakers had eulogised the departing officer. Mr Ray left to-day to take up his duties at Tinwald.

Mr R. B. Hammond, director of town planning, has left Wellington for Auckland, on a visit to various local bodies respecting town planning matters. Mr Hammond will confer with the Mount Eden Borough Council, and will inspect the Orakei garden suburb. On Tuesdav. a meeting of the Port Albert Borough Council will be attended, and on the following days visits will be paid to Whangarei and Dargaville. Mr Hammond will return to Wellington on Monday March 7.

Members of the outside staff and office staff of the Union Company met this morning*at the company's branch office at L}’ttelton for the purpose of bidding farewell to the manager, Mr J. N. Greenland, who has been transferred to Timaru on promotion as manager at that office. Captain F. Horn, marine superintendent, tendered congratulations on behalf of those present. Captain Horn handed Mr Greenland a handsome leather suit case and an attache case for Mrs Greenland.
