WASHINGTON LODGE, No. 28. The quarterly meeting of the lodge was held last Monday, I\.G. Brother C. A. Clark presiding over a good attendance. The hospital visitors reported that they had had a busy time. Correspondence was received from Brother C. B. Dent asking for a transfer to the Hamilton Lodge, which was granted. Next Saturday, at Mr Wood’s residence Hate Mrs Kobsons), 442, Selwyn Street, Addington, a garden fete will be held to assist the kindergarten. There will be a baby show, stalls of ail descriptions, children's competitions, and Derry’s Band will be in attendance. If the afternoon is fine, a big crowd is expected to assist the worthy object. SEWER WORKS. Now that the laying of sewers has ■■ commenced in Spreydon, it is hoped that the Drainage Board will profit by experience, and not allow material from excavations to block the sidechannels or remain on the roadsides for undue periods after the trenches are filled in. TOWN PLANNING FOR SPREYDOX. During the week further conferences between owners of land in Spreydon and the Town Planning Committee of the City Council have been held, the Spreydon Burgesses’ Association, which is interesting itself in the scheme, being represented by Messrs E. Langford and F. Schwartz. The secretary of the Burgesses’ Association has received a letter from the Town Planning Committee stating that it. will meet the deputation next Tuesday to discuss matters with a view to obtaining further information relating to equitable adjustment of roads, required land, and financing the same. , A DDINGTOX SCI lOOL. Since the school reopened, 100 names have been removed from the rolls, and fifty-eight names have been added. Of those leaving, over sixty had passed Standard VI.. •and the roll number at the end of last week was 744. There are quite a number whose names will soon be added. The committee is keenly urging the matter of more classrooms, and the Education Board is sympathetic Mr 11. Kennedy, who recently retired from Addington School, leaves Christchurch early in March for an extended tour of Europe and America. Mrs Kennedy and her daughter Irene are accompanying Mr Kennedy, who expects to be away fqr about a year. BARRINGTON BOWLING CLUB. The mid-week game played on Tuesday was against St Albans, when Barrington won, 21 to 8. A Barrington rink visited Sydenham green on Wednesday, and beat the local rink by 18 to 17. In the rink championship competition. Wellington, Memmott, Fox and M’Gimpsey beat Robinson, F'orsyth, Cooper and Chambers, 26-15. The first-named rink also beat a rink composed of Lane, Campbell, Truman and Lewer, 19-17. At a meeting held on Wednesdav evening, the following. were appointed a sub-committee to arrange for euchre evenings during the winter: —Messrs Memmott, Jones, Hennessy, Forsyth and Truman (convener). Mr T. G. Fox, vice-president of the club, is presenting an honours board for erection in the pavilion. SPREYDON AMATEUR SWIMMING CLUB. A meeting of the committee of the Spreydon Swimming Club was held on Wednesday in the Sprevdon School. The treasurer reported a credit balance of £ll 7s 2d for the general account and a credit balance of £l7 Gs .‘ld for the bath improvement account. It was decided to hold a swimming carnival [ on Saturday, March 5. Medals were donated by Mr Bennett, Mrs Oual- [ trough and Mrs Wild. CA R N IYA LDANO E. j A successful carnival dance was held | in the Coronation Hall on Saturdav | last, when there was a large attend- j ance. Fred Smith’s orchestra supplied

the music for the evening, and Mr Ashby was M.C. Extras were played by Messrs IT. Ashby and X. Johnston, J. Jordan and P. Campbell. The winners of the novelty dances were as follows:—Lucky Boston two-step, Mr A. M’Auliff and Miss M. Davis; Monte Carlo, Mr Green and Miss Smith. A carnival dance will be held on March IMPERIAL BOWLING CLUB. In the Henry Wood Champion Cup, two games were played this week. The rink skipped by (.'lark beat Ilowson’s rink, and Tavlor’s rink lost to Wornall’s. In the Fox Cup. Ashby beat Duxley. Ilewson, M'Cracken, Draper and Mathieson. Last Saturday two rinks visited Paparua, the green being in splendid order. Imperial won in all three rinks. Afternoon tea was served by lady friends of club members. ADDINGTON BURGESSES’ EUCHRE. The popularity of the weekly euchre tournament was shown last week, when there was a large attendance. The following were the prize-winners:—Mes-dames Harper, Coulin, Noonan and Sheridan, Messrs Dempsey. E. Hanson, W. French and J. Bradshaw. This week, owing to the hall being let, the euchre had to be postponed* but will resume from next Saturday, March 5. SPREYDON CRICKET CLUB. The Spreydon juniors defeated East Christchurch by one wicket, Spreydon scoring 83 and 207 for nine wickets. Cross 61 not out, Farrant 53 not out. Smith 11. Cox 10, Marson 10 and Moore 11 were top scorers. The best bowlers were M’Lelland', six for 48, Marson, three for 14. The match had an exciting finish, Spreydon having nine wickets down for 105 runs, and with only one wicket to fall wanted 100 runs to win. Farrant, who is a promising young colt, and plays for the third grade, went in to overtake this big hurdle. The partnership between Farrant and Cross put on 102 runs, both not out. and won the match for Spreydon. The third grade team defeated East Christchurch by three wickets, Spreydon scoring 170 and 73 for seven wickets. Lisle 39, Foster 10, O'Connor 58 not out, Henderson 12, L. Irving 10. O’Connor 25, Farrant 1G and Henderson 10 were the best batsmen. Kiddey, nine for 61, and Farrant, three for 18, were the best bowlers. PERSONAL. Mrs W. S. Bean, the vicarage, Addington. leaves next week on a holiday to England.
