FILM PERSONALS.
One of the most widely travelled actresses now appearing in pictures is Lucy Beaumont, who plays an important role in “ Men of the Night,” to be released shortly by Universal. Miss Beaumont was born in England, educated there and in Paris, and began her acting career in Great Britain. She toured the British “ provinces,” and then went with a theatrical troupe which toured the Far East. She appeared on the stage in America before turning to screen acting.
Tom O’Brien, who plays the part of the hard-boiled “ Bull ” O'Hara in “ The Big Parade,” the epic Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer production, has crowded into his life more than a fair share of adventure and thrills. In his earlier years he led an adventurous life in every part of the globe. He hunted in Java, Borneo, India, Siam and the New Hebrides, and was special gun guard with Paul Rainey during that famous explorer's African expedition. He also specialised in buying orangoutangs in Africa, and has travelled with most of the circuses in America. Pola Negri’s real name is Appollonia Chalupez. As this name was too long and difficult to use for professional purposes she abbreviated the Appollonia to Pola and chose " Negri ” as her surname. The surname was chosen because of her great love for the Polish translations of the Italian verses of Ada Negri. Pola Negri was born in Bromberg, Poland. Her father died when she was six years old. Pola attended school until she was sixteen years old and then went to Warsaw and entered a dramatic school, completing a three-year course in one Born of entertainers. Buster Keaton has been a comedian since he was old enough to toddle out on the stage. He became famous in the act, " The Three Keatons,” in which his father used him as punching-bag and whatnot. Always Keaton has preserved
stony, calm indifference to his surroundings, no matter how exciting or sensational they might be. In some respects the magic of his comic per-
sonality can be traced to this cause. He combines this with rare appreciation of comedy values which will be
given full play in his first United Artists release, “ The General.” a fivereel comedy, having as its background the Civil War.
