EVANGELINE’S LETTER.

jyjV DEAREST T WINKLERS— I feel I want to write with a dozen pencils all at once! One is not nearly enough to-day, as I have lots of news for you. First of all the surprise which I have been guarding is a picnic to be held at Sumner next Saturday, March 5. It is for all Starlets and Shooting Stars, and a happy time is promised to everybody. V ill the Stars who are able to conic kindlv write and tell me before Wednesday, as final arrangements cannot be made until it is lcnown how many to expect. A further notice about the picnic will appear in the “ Star ” on Thursday, March 3. It will be. a most important notice, as I shall tell you the time and place to meet me. The Weather Clerk has been besieged to provide fine weather for picnics, so let us all appeal to him. too. He. showed me his engagement book recently and orders have been streaming into him. He likes to be busy, he said, and took down exactly what I want for March 5 a clear blue sky, a brilliant sun, and the tiniest of sea breezes. By this mail I am sending off a letter to the King of the Sea. I had not written to him before, but the Weather Clerk gave me his address. It appears that tliev work together and arc the greatest of friends. Often the Weather Clerk spends a holidav with him, and he is going to visit him to-morrow and talk over their arrangements for March 5. So I hope everyone will be good, as it is surprising the news they manage to obtain about children who pray for a nice, sunny day. For instance, l heard about a Shooting Star who was having a birthday party in his garden. Every night for a week he asked for a fine day, but all the time his thoughts were busy wondering what presents his friends would give him. Ilis birthday arrived and it was a wet, cold day. He was ever so disappointed, and when he went to say his prayers at night, he heard a voice sav: “Now, Rex, put all your thoughts into vour prayers; then if it is right that they should be answered in the way you want, von will get vour washes.” He was so pleased to get that advice that he has carried it out ever since.

I did not tell you about my visiting day, did I? It was ever so enjoyable, and crowds of Starlets and Shooting Stars came to see me. Another day a host of Starlets and their teacher came to pay me a visit, and we had such a happy time together. They are most enthusiastic over the, page, and are going to help it along wonderfully. And the Rubber Man visited me also with his rubber menagerie. Oh dear! I was busy last week. This morning, as I was writing to you, I heard a wee knock on the door, so I opened it and found two tiny girls who had come to see me. They chatted for a Jong time and told me all about Patience and Peter—two dear wee babies whom 1 ant going to see some /day. Yesterday a membership card came back as tlie postman could not find the Star to whom I bad sent if. Joyce Cousins is her name, and I have printed a photopgraph of her, so I shall welcome any news of her whereabouts. Whenever you make a change in your address, always remember to write, and tell me; then I shall feel sure that the cards will reach tlxeir destination. Before concluding I want to remind you that there are two most important things to do—first, to write before Wednesday and say whether you are coming to the Stars’ picnic and second, to watch Thursday’s “ Star ” for further particulars.— With love, EVANGEIWE.
