“Wilfred,” widely known in England as “the King's rabbit,” met with an untimely death at his home at Bolton Abbey. The King, when the guest of the Duke of Devonshire at Bolton Abbey for the opening of the grouse shooting season last year, bought the rabbit for little Kathleen Tomlinson, the invalid daughter of the Rev. C. E. Tomlinson, rector of the parish, from, her brother, who had decided to sell it. The rabbit was a great favourite with the little girl, and when his Majesty heard the story he sent his equerry to adjust the matter. The rabbit was bought and presented to the little girl the King "retaining a half share.” Since then “Wilfred” had spent most of hi* time in the rectory garden, and it was while he was running about that ft stray dog came in and killed huo.
