FIRE OCCURS IN LUPINS AT SUMNER
About 3 o’clock this afternoon the Sumner Fire Brigade was called to a lupin fire on a vacant section in Bury Street, Sumner. A quantity of cut lupin had caught alight, the cause being unknown. Fanned by a strong easterly breeze, the flames leapt to a height of about twelve feet. Anxiety was felt for the safety of the houses on either side of the section, but the brigade soon had the fire well in hand. No serious damage was done.
