MAGISTRATE’S COURT.

CHRISTCHURCH. (Before Mr H. A. Young, S.M.) ORDER DISOBEYED. William James Henry Stewart pleaded guilty to drunkenness and to having procured liquor during the currency of a prohibition order. Senior-Sergeant Martin said that it was the first break and the order was taken out last Jul} r . On the drunkenness charge Stewart was convicted and discharged and on the other was fined 20s, in default 48 hours’ imprisonment. ASSAULT CHARGE. Alfred James Luxon, aged 45, pleaded guilty to having unlawfully assaulted Joseph William M’Clintock. Senior-Sergeant Martin said that at the railway station last evening Luxon, who was under the influence of liquor, went up to M’Clintock, a taxi driver, and asked for sixpence. “The request was rightly refused,” continued the prosecutor, “but Luxon hauled off and struck the taxi driver several times. Probably it was the liquor that put the fight in him. Accused has just come out of gaol.” “Five pounds, in default fourteen days,” said the Magistrate. “Have you got any money or property?” The answer was in the negative. “He has a halfpenny,” remarked the Senior-Sergeant. CHILDREN’S COURT. (Before Mr IT. A. Young. S.M., and Mrs A. E. Herbert, J.P.). A boy of fourteen admitted having taken an electric fitting from a motor car which had been left in an auction mart. He was admonished and discharged. A boy of fifteen admitted having assaulted another lad. and he was placed tinder the supervision of the Child Welfare Officer. lie was also recommended to attend night classes. A boy of sixteen, charged with theft of money, was committed to the care of the Child Welfare Department. Jt was said that the boy could not be controlled and had been in trouble before. Three boys who rode bicycles on a footpath were each admonished and discharged. One lad, who had ridden at night without a light and failed to carry a bell or red reflector, was admonished and discharged, the financial circumstances of the parent being taken into consideration. A lad who rode a bicycle at night without a light, did not appear, and was fined 2s 6d.
