ARRANGEMENTS FOR ROYAL FETE ARE NOW WELL UNDER WAY.
A meeting of the Royal Fete Committee was held yesterday afternoon, the chair being occupied by Mr A. F. The subcommittee recommended that the fete be held in the Gardens, and that the public should be assembled on the archery lawn. It also recommended that the military authorities be asked to provide a guard of cadets to keep the crowd back from the centre of the lawn, where the reception is to take place. The report was adopted. It was decided that afternoon tea arrangements be left in the hands of whoever should fie entertaining the Duke and Duchess after they had left the f<jte. • It was decided that the pioneers who arrived by the first four ships, the disabled soldiers from the Rannerdalc Home and elsewhere, the blind, and the veterans, should be invited to at tend, and be presented to the Duke and Duchess. Arrangements for the invitations and for transport, were left to a sub committee comprised of representatives from the Returned Soldiers’ Association, the Sir Arthur Pearson Committee, the Veterans’ Association, and the Automobile Association. A letter was received from the Girl Guides’ Association asking that they should provide a guard of honour for the Duchess. The offer was accepted. The St John Ambulance Association wrote offering to station men on the ground in case of eventualities. The offer was accepted. t It was decided to ask Councillor Ford for the services of three bands for the occasion.
