RENOWN SAILS FROM KINGSTON TO PANAMA.
CROWDS WITNESS SHIP’S DEPARTURE. By Telegraph.— Press Assn.—Copyright. Aus. and N.Z. Cable Association'. KINGSTON (Jamaica), January 24. The Renown moved out of Kingston harbour early yesterday morning. Her departure was far more simple than her arrival. The salutes from the warships barely disturbed the Sabbath quiet. Crowds watched from the. shore and the ultimate touch of enthusiasm and cheering was lent the occasion by a group of young negroes on the beach at Port Royal, whence a shore battery fired the last salute. The Royal party attended church on the forecastle during the morning. This, owing to the unpleasant weather conditions, had to be a standing service, no seat being possible. During the visit to Kingston a full sports programme was conducted, including an Association match, which was lost, and a water polo match and relay swimming race, which were both won by the Renown. The ship’s marines beat the army in the light-weight tug-of-war. The men and officers of the Renown also joined in football and cricket matches, Navy versus Army.
