Misses Estelle and Ethelda Brice, Oxford Terrace, arc spending a holiday in the North Island. Mrs W. Gentles arrived in Christchurch yesterday from the Chatham Islands. Mr and Mrs W. J. Hunter, who have been spending a holiday iil the Norfh Island, have returned home. Mrs Line. Wellington, and Miss Mary Line, who have been spending a holiday in Canterbury, have returned ot the north. Mr and Mrs Vivian 11. Line, Kipling Street, who have been on a tour of Central Otago and the Southern Lakes, returned to Christchurch on Saturday. Mrs W. Black and Miss Sylvia Black, Slater Street, who have been touring the North Island, have returned to Christchurch. Mrs J. S. Neville has returned from a visit to Wellington. Mrs Garrett, of Gisborne, is a guest at Warner's Hotel. Mrs C. L. Meredith-Kaye, St Albans, has returned from the North Island. Mr and Mrs George Murray-Aynsley returned from Wellington this morning. Mrs 11. 11. Fisher, Albury, South Canterbury, is staying at the United Service Hotel. Mrs Duncan Bauchop. who was staying with her mother, Mrs 11. J. Raphael. Gloucester Street, has returned to Wellington. Misses R. and G. Pinkerton and Miss E. Nicholas, of Melbourne, who were staying in Christchurch, left for the West Coast this morning. Mrs A. 11. Fisher and Miss M. Fcatherston, Dunedin, who arc visiting Christchurch, have returned to the south. Miss Marion Macfarlane, of Auckland, who is the guest of Miss Betty Cotterill, will return to the north toMrs Rutherford and the Misses Rutherford, Mcndip Hills, and Mr and Mrs W. Newman. Hokitika, are among the recent arrivals staving at Warner's Hotel. Mr and Mrs Edwin Milncs. Merivale, have returned from the North Island. Mrs A. Fehscnfeld and children have returned to Christchurch after a month’s holiday at Arthur's Pass. Misses F. and E. Johns, V. Bedford and A. O'Connell, who have been spending a holiday at Avoca, have returned to Christchurch. The following guests have registered at the Hotel Federal:—Mr and Mrs J. Dalglish, Le Bons Bay; Mr J. Ponsford. A dance was held in the Pigeon Bay Hall on Frida}', the occasion being the break-up of Madame Alwvn's Physical Culture Camp. Mr F. Large’s Band, from Christchurch, provided the music. Supper was provided by the ladies. An item of physical culture was much appreciated. The singing of “ Auld Lang Syne ” and cheers for the camp by the local residents ended a happy evening. Visitors to. Arthur’s Pass include: Dr and Mrs 11. G. Denham, Mr and Mrs 11. J. Murrell, Mrs A. and Mrs F. Mrs W. Hammett (Christchurch), Miss Lee (Timaru), Mr 13. W. Piercy (Dunedin), Messrs L. F. Tipping (Invercargill), A. Slack (Auckland), 13. E. Eckroyd and S. L. Horne (New Plymouth), E. W. Bennett (Christchurch), James M. Butler (Avoca), Misses Johns (2). Vera Bedford and Annie O'Connell (Christchurch), Mr and Mrs Moodie and Miss Grace Moodie (Rakaia). The death occurred on January 21 at her residence. Wooldridge Road, Hare wood, of Mrs Elizabeth Selleck Wooldridge, who, with her husband, arrived at Lvttelton bv the ship Mystery in the year 1563. She was' a Voman of sterling character, who was loved and respected by all who knew her. At the time of her death she was within three weeks of her ninety-first birthday. Her husband predeceased her twenty years ago. She is survived by six children—fotir sons and two daughters, twenty-six grandchildren, and thirteen great grandchildren. Hamilton, of Sydney, left Christchurch this morning en route to Mount Cook. Miss L. Dawson, of Melbourne, arrived in Christchurch this morning, and is registered at the Clarendon Hotel. Mr and Mrs A. IT. Ilasell and Miss D. Hasell, of Melbourne, left Christchurch this morning for the West Coast. The Misses E. and A.-Harris, of Western Australia, who were staying in Christchurch, left for the Southern Lakes this morning. Mr and Mrs L. M’Kelvie, of Wellington, who have been spending a few days in Christchurch, left for Ficton this morning. Mr and Mrs W. Shaw. Auckland, and Mr and Mrs IT. Shaw, Sheffield, who were in Christchurch for a few days, left for the south this morning. Mrs IT. IT. Wauchop, Heaton Street, and her children ,are spending a few days at Temuka. Sir George and Lady Clifford, who have been on a visit to Wellington, returned to Christchurch to-day. Mr and Mrs C. G. Dalgety, who have been to Wellington for the races, have returned to Christchurch. Dr and Mrs Duncan, Rossall Street, have returned from Timaru, where they have spent a fortnight’s Jioliday . On Saturday evening the patients and staff of the Upper Sanatorium, Cashmere, were provided with an enjoyable evening’s entertainment by a party organised by Mrs Holmes. The party consisted of Mrs Stallard, Misses Stallard, Olga Wacked. King, Ewart and Bell. Messrs Jack Richards, Blomskv and Sam Stern. Among the items given were: —Duet, “ Home to Our Mountains,” Mrs and Miss Stallard; “Cartload o’ Hay,” Mr Richards; “The Waters of Minnetonka,” Miss Wacked; “Carnival.” Miss King; “The False Prophet,” Miss Ewart; “Rose of My Ileart,” Mr Blomsky and Miss Wacked; “ Lovely Night,” Miss Ewart and Mr Richards; "Still as the Night,” Mrs Stallard. Humorous character sketches were given by Mr Sam Stern and also a fine dramatic recitation entitled “The Hell Gates of Soissons.” The accompaniments were played by Miss Bell. At tlTe conclusion the party were thanked and cheers were given by the patients. The cars for the party were provided by Messrs Wilks. Dann and Gray. The weekly dance of the Christchurch Dance Assembly was held on Saturday evening at the Caledonian Hall, when over 300 dancers attended. The music, which was broadcast, was supplied by Jackson’s orchestra. The supper extras were supplied by Mr D. Mitchell. The stage was decorated with coloured lights. The assembly has installed a number of electric fans for the. summer dances. The second heat of the dancing championship of Christchurch competition was won by Miss Yada Milner and Mr J. Nee. The third heat will be held next Saturday at the Caledonian Hall. The Oxford branch of the W.C.T.U. met last Wednesday afternoon. the president being in the chair. Resolutions were passed expressing sympathy with Mesdames F. Tritt and D. Morris in their bereavement, also with Miss Sohmun. whose house had been destroyed by fire. Reference was made to the death of Lady Truby King, who so ably seconded Sir Truby in his efforts for the welfare of New Zealand babies. The election of officers resulted in the present officers retaining their positions, with the addition of Miss IT. Waterman as assistant home mission superintendent. Miss Campbell was appointed flower mission superintendent in place of Mrs Jamieson, who is leaving the district. Regret was expressed at losing Mr and Mrs Jamieson, who had always befen ready to help in the work, Mr Jamieson having rendered valuable assistance for several years as doorkeeper of the show refreshment tent. It was decided to organise home to be held from time to time in the outlying parts of the district.
