INDIANS DEVELOPED DROPSICAL CONDITION. (Special to the “Star.”) AUCKLAND, January 25. The Suva correspondent of the. “Star” states that what might be termed a novel epidemic lias made, its ap pearance in Fiji suddenly in quite far removed districts. Indians have developed a dropsical condition which in some cases has resulted in death. The Chief Medical Officer reports that, there are over sixty cases in Suva and more than that, in the Rewa district, and there are cases also in Taveiini and Tavua. All the medical staff are busy investigating the cause of the outbreak, the origin of which is unknown. but most likely it is chic to some food deprivation or even germ, while a poison theory is favoured by the Chief Medical Officer. All storekeepers have been requested to furnish statements of food importations, as the outbreak is believed to be due to a shipment of bad mustard, oil, rice or other foodstuff.
