TROPHIES PRESENTED.

Presenting the trophies and prizes won during the tournament, Mr W. N. Seay, president of the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association, paid a tribute to the work of Mr R. Browning, the association’s secretary. He spoke also of the fine spirit of sportsman- , ship that had been shown by the New South Wales players. It had been a pleasure to cpme in contact with them both on the courts and off. They had always arrived punctually to play, and were always ready to play when called upon, no matter how tired they were. That had not always been the case with the Canterbury players. It was the first time that the Canterbury championships had been played on the grass courts at Wilding Park. They could expect a higher standard of tennis from now on. “I need not say anything about tlie park and its appointments—you can see for yourselves,” said Mr Seay. The courts were new, but tlie association had done all in its power to get them ready for the tournament. They had been topdressed, and that was the reason for their being dusty, but when they had been used a little more they would be equal to any in New Zealand. Mr Frank Peach, captain of the New South Wales team, complimented the officials of the association on their able management of the tourney, and spoke of the admirable appointments of Wilding Park. Mr Seay then presented the prizes. “ JOLLY GLAD.” “I'm jolly glad Geoff, has won,” said Norman Peach after the final of the men’s singles championship. “I have played many times with him and we really don’t care who wins. We have good fun from the play; it’s jolly fine to see a local man come through. If Geoff. Ollivier had the opportunity to meet strong players he would go further, but he does not get those opportunities. It's only once in a blue moon that he gets a match with a decent player.” _
