LAST ISSUE OF “NEW ZEALAND TIMES” HAS NOW BEEN PRINTED.
(Special to the “Star.”) WELLINGTON, January 23. Fifty-two years ago Mr T. W. M’Kenzie, one of Wellington’s oldest identities, brought out the first issue of the “New Zealand Times,” in which was merged the “Wellington Independent,” of which Mr M’Kenzie was proprietor. In the small hours of Saturday morning, Mr Earl M’Kenzie, sub-editor of the “Times,” and a son of the founder of the journal, sent away the last form of the final issue of the paper, which has had a chequered career. The literary staff made a presentation to Mr C. A. Marris, editor for the past two years, and previously editor of the Christchurch “Sun,” paying a tribute to his journalistic ability and expressing the friendship which they felt for him.
