Post Office En gineer-in-Chief, says that he has never claimed to guarantee secrecy. but special efforts were being made i*n that direction. Even on the beam such a wide “track” was required that signals couid easily be read. Regular users of telephony should use code words and phrases, but he hoped to devise a. means of cutting up the words -into fragments at the transmitting point, and piecing them together again at the receiving end, thus baffling interception en route
