FIVE-ROOMED HOUSE DESTROYED BY FIRE.

Fire destroyed a five-roomed house in Beswick Street, Kaiapoi, owned and ‘bccupied by Mr G. J. M’Allistcr, at about 11.45 this morning. Mr McAllister "was absent at the time of the outbreak. The insurance on the house is not available. There is a policy of £l5O on the contents in the State office. The local brigade turned out promptly, but the fire had a firm hold, and the brigadesmen were forced to confine their efforts to keeping the blaze from spreading to an adjoining property.
