NOTES ON THE GAMES. (Special to the “Star.") WELLINGTON, January 15. Ollivier again provided the match of the moment when he met A. L. North. The ex-Xew Zealand champion was playing with machine-like accuracy, and returning everything that he touched. North sprinted round like .a hare, and earned every point that he won, but. Ollivier ran to 5-3 with safety, and bad North down 15-4 on his service. Then the Canterbury man let up, and North went for everything, taking risks which came off. He drew level and. irresistible now. ran on to win 7-5. After that it was all Ollivier. He took the first five games in the second set. playing more in the manner of billiards than tennis. Then he made two mistakes, letting go balls which landed in, and this gave North the sixth game easily. He raided the net on service, to raise the score to 2-5. and Ollivier then took the next game with ease. The next set was the same, Ollivier running ahead 5-0, overwhelming North after 3-0, and takingtwo love games in succession. Deep, beautifully played drives and classic volleys marked the play, and North, hit he ever so hard, could not break through the . wall of strokes presented by Ollivier. At 5-0 Ollivier was leading 40-15, and with a last fine effort North won this game and the next, but Ollivier commenced taking the net and ran ahead to 40-15 on North’s outs, taking the game easily. Andrews was anything but on his game against Norman Peach, and his win was a lucky one. Peach was definitely superior in the first set, and commenced quickly, winning Andrews’s opening service to love, and holding this advantage throughout the set. Andrews lost his service again for 2-5, and netted weakly in the final game for Peach to take. Andrews just nosed out 7-5 in the second set. In the first game of the third set Andrews began better, and ran ahead 3-0, but Peach pulled up well, and served his way to 3-all. The next. two games were divided, and after that Andrews showed more finish, twice catching Peach at his feet, and running out to 15. At 30-all in the next game Peach sent down an ace which beat the umpire’s eve, and Andrews won the re-play. Peach then double-faulted for set.
