TWO LORD CHICHESTERS DIE WITHIN 9 DAYS. (Special to the ‘Star.’’) LONDON, November 24. “The Luck of the Pelhams,” the ancient family of which the Earls of Chichester were the head, has not been good luck of late years. Four Earls of Chichester have died in the last 24 years. The 21-ycars-old 7th Earl of Chichester, who succeeded to the title on the death of his father on Sunday of last week, died—as reported in the late editions of “The Daily Mail” yesterday—from pneumonia on Monday night after being earl for only nine days. lie was unable to attend his father’s funeral because he was suffering from pneumonia, the illness from which his. father also died. Walter John Pelham, fourth Earl of Chichester, died in May, 1902, and was succeeded by his brother, Francis Godolphin Pelham, who was for some time Rector of Lambeth, b.E. He died in April, 1905, when lie was succeeded by his eldest son, Jocelyn Brudenell Pelham. the sixth earl, who died ten days ago.

The new Earl of Chichester is the late carl’s younger brother, the lion John Buxton Pelham, who, at the age

of 14, is now head of the House of Pelham.

In quick successions to estates there is no question of paying the full estate duty twice over. Under the present law the amojint payable on the second

succession is reduced by 50 per cent if the second death occurs within one year of the first.
