When the Berengaria was approaching the English coast she struck a succession of terrific squalls. She was battling against giant seas for twentyfour hours. A number of passengers were injured. One broke a wrist and another fractured a leg. Throughout the entire night two doctors were rendering first aid. Tables and chairs were smashed and everybody was confined below decks. The Homeric was passed, bound for America, heading the storm and practically obliterated in spray.
