AUSTRALIA PREPARES FOR DAVIS CUP EVENT.
By Teiepraph.—Prtxf Assn. —Copyright Aus. and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received January 17, 2 p.m.) MELBOURNE, January 17. A meeting of the Australian Lawn Tennis Council appointed a committee to watch the form of contestants in the Australian Tennis Championships at the end of this month and pick a team, if thought advisable, to participate in the 1927 Davis Cup matches. The council agreed to permit matches between amateurs and professionals, provided the State Lawn Tennis Associations are placed in full control of the matches and the proceeds are devoted to some tennis purpose. It was also decided that Australia should vote in favour of Germany being allowed to enter for the Davis Cup and in favour of the cup being competed for annually.
