Continuing a first grade match in the North Canterbury Association’s competition, Doburn 174 (Mayer 103, Parker 22. G. Smith 12, Cook 11) scored a threepoint. win from Amber ley, 7S and GO (Boyce 1.7, V. Rhodes 12. Forsyth 121, by an innings and 36 runs. For Ambe.rlev, Mayo and Boyce each took three wickets, and for Doburn, < ’reft. took wickets for 3 4 runs and Bennett “woodend 727 (Nixon 57. K. Little Si, E. HAWKE CUP. HAWKE’S BAX V. TARANAKI. Per Press Association. NEW PLYMOUTH, January 16. After the second day s play in the Hawke Cup match, Taranaki has reason to be confident, requiring 53 runs to retain the cup, and having six wickets in hand. Having made 94 m the first m nines, Hawke's Bay disposed of Taranaki for a total of 109. In their second strike Hawke’s Bay, on a wicket oonsidcrably improved, gave a much better display for 186, a feature being a fine innings for 88 by Dowry, who, howe\er, had an extremely lucky escape in the forties, and from then went on to rattle up his score rapidly. Cole secured the line average of six wickets for oruns. Requiring 171, Taranaki's opening was not particularly promising, but when stumps were drawn the side had reached 118 for the loss of four wickets, the not out men being Kingston and Bottrill, both of whom appeared likely to stav, the former having made 21 and the latter 24. Per Tress Association. AUCKLAND, January 16. The senior cricket competition was resumed on Saturday. Eden, playing against North Shore, declared at nine wickets for 324 (Butler 97, Cooper 50). North Shore, who lia.d made 100 in the first innings, played out time in the second innings, making 161 for six wickets. Eden thus won on the first innings. University. plavirig Y.M.C.A., made 314 (Kelly 65 not out, Gee 51). Y.M.C.A., who ma.do 340 in the first innings, scored 135 in the second (with four players absent) and won on the first, innings. Grafton, playing Pousonby, scored 138 (Alcott not out !7>. Fonsonby’s first innings score was 212, and in the second Ponsonby made 19S for four wickets (Snedden 66, M’Ueod 53), thus winning on the first innings. Parnell, playing North Shore B, made 145 in the first innings, and, batting three men short, only 71 in the second. For North Shore p., popples took six wickets for 14 runs. Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, January 16. The senior cricket matches were continued in fine weather. In the game between Albion and Cansbrook, Albion, who had lost two wickets for 190 on the first day, declared with the score at 256 (Shepherd 75, Barron 43). Carisbrook replied with 238 for four wickets (Blunt 157, Gourley not out 32, Dickinson 25). The match was drawn. Blunt has scored centuries in three successive innings in club cricket, 175 against Dunedin, 102 against Grange, and 157 against Albion. . _ Dunedin scored a two-point win on the first innings against Grange. Dunedin, with four wickets down for 141 on the first day, continued and took the score to 216 for five wickets, when they declared. Grange made 116, Walker, with 37, being top scorer. For Dunedin, Torrance three wickets for 23 runs and M’Gregor four for 65 bowled best.
