HUMAN BARRIER SAVES TWO LIVES.

FATHER AND SON BURIED BY FALL. (Special to the “Star.”) LONDON, November 20 While digging for coal in the pit-hea-,. at Littleburn Colliery, near Durhar.. yesterday. Robert and Hugh Broun, father and son, were overwhelmed by a fall of earth. The son was completely buried, and the father was pinned waist high a few feet above jhim. Other miners ran to their help, but they found that if the father was ex tricated first the son would be buried beyond recovery, and that if the son was removed first the father would be buried. After clearing the debris away from the son’s head, the men dug a trench twenty feet long on each side of the place, other men forming themselves into a kind of shoring wall to prevent a further fall of earth. The rescuers dug for fully three hours before they got the two men out safely —the son being saved first.
