RAILWAY TRAFFIC IS HEAVY THIS WEEK END.
To-day sese another great rush of people leaving and returning to the city. All through the week the railway traffic has been back at normal, but today many of the remaining holiday makers are ending their vacations, and the trains were very heavy. This morning’s express, with its full complement of fifteen passenger cars, was crowded, 520 people travelling by it. The West Coast train was well patronised, 280 passengers travelling. A special train, run for people wishing to go to the Ashburton races, took over xvdJri week there will be a good number of special excursions. On Thursday a train will run to Motukarara for the brewer’s picnic, and on Saturday next there are three picnics; the tramway workshop employees going to Motukarara, the employees of the Christchurch Municipal Electrical Department to Stewart’s Gully, the City office staff to Lyttelton, and the City Council employees to Little River.
