FINED FOR TAKING SAND FROM AUCKLAND BEACH.

(Special to the “ Star.”) AUCKLAND. January 15 The practice of motorists in removing sand from the Mission Bay Beach, Koliimarama, was referred to in the Police Court yesterday in a case against R. P. Sharman. Mr Hubble, for the Tamaki Road Board, said that defendant had not taken more than a sugar-bag full of sand, but the point was that almost every motorist who visited the beach took the opportunity to remove a bag of sand, and a great deal had disappeared. It was not suggested that the present prosecution should be anything but a warning. Mr Gallagher: The amount taken was merely for a couple of canaries. (Laughter.) Mr Hubble: It must have been a year's supply. Defendant wa s convicted and discharged. ___
