I Following the release of numerous ; slaves in Hukuwag Valley in the : southern Shan States of Northern i Burma last year, the Government of Burma has informed the Kachin Hills chiefs that slavery in their territory must cease. %
Compensation will be paid. It is estimated that 5000 slaves will receive their freedom as a result of the efforts of the British administration. The Baluchistan ruler of Kalat a powerful chief, announces the total abolition of slaverv.
