RANKING LIST TENNIS MATCHES PLAYED LAST NIGHT.
ANGAS BEATS BROWNING AND PATTERSON HAS WIN FROM GREENWOOD Two matches for places on the Canterbury lawn tennis ranking list were played last night. C. Angas heat R. Brovning, (1-2, 6-3, in a challenge match fo* 0, eighth place. Angas had much the better of the ga.mes all through and was extraordinarily accurate in all shots, whereas Browning hart to work hard to get occasional games. Angas will now challenge Sheppard for seventh place. L. W.. Patterson, challenging Greenwood for sixth place, won, 6-3, 2-6, 6-3. It was a long gruelling match in which Greenwood appeared to be, out of condition. He ran Patterson about from corner to corner, but Patterson made some good recoveries from almost hopeloss positions. Greenwood was unable to take up the net position consistently, though he did so for a while, but found that lie was passed and gave it up. Consequently the match was finished under conditions which rather suiter! Patterson. MANAWATU MEETING. Per Press Association. PALMERSTON NORTH, January 12. The tennis championship finals were played to-day and resulted:— JJEN’S SINGLES. > Haege beat Andrews, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. LADIES’ SIXGLES. Miss Speirs beat Mrs Melody, 6-0, 6-3. MEX’S DOUBLES. Haege and Malfroy beat Wilson and Park, G-0, 6-3. LADIES’ DOUBLES. Mrs Melody and Miss Speirs beat Mrs Hetley and Miss Clark, 6-0, 6-1. MIXED DOUBLES. Andrews and Miss Speirs beat Haege and Miss Macfarlane, 6-3, 6-4. Following are the results of the handicap finals:— Men’s Singles—Smith (18) beat Mawliinney (2), 60-,48.
