As the tourney for the Dominion championship Is approaching- the end. very keen interest is being displayed by the numerous spectators as evidenced by the way the players are almost snowed in, especially at the evening sessions. The sixth round commenced this morning, and will be continued at 7 this evening, this afternoon being an off session, except for players with back games or unfinished ones, and they must be played off. The results so far in the sixth round are:— Pleasants v. Davies. (French dedenoe).—This was played on orthodox lines, and up to the 21st move the position was very even except for Pleasants having a. weak Queen’s pawn, which fell, and afterwards another fell when Pleasants resigned a game which he could have protracted. JSrsktno v. Severn© (Queen's pawn). -—An even struggle is progressing. ISrskine has an isolated Queen’s pawn, and as compensation ho lias a knight strongly posted. The position is unfluKeliing won a pawn early. Afterwards Fair burn made an unsound sacrifice, which left him with a hopeless game, and ho resigned at move 32. Gyles v. Hu llock. — (Roy fi-pez).— A very tough game is in progress, which stands over for tins evening. Miller v. Roberts (Sicilian defence) Roberts Is pushing an attack on the queen side, whilst Miller is endeavouring Jo counter in the centre. Roberts got pushed for the. time at the end of the first hour’s play, but evaued making anv serious oversight on that account, and the game is finished, Roberts having the better position with a passed pawn on queen side. Moir v. Dunlop (Huy L ope sc and Stein its; defence). —Dunlop made a weak queen move, allowing Moir to get a double attack on a knight which Dunlop lost, after which it was only a question of time, and Dunlop resigned on move 28.
